Eight artists you must see at this year’s Fairgrounds Festival

Summer is well on its way in Australia and what better way to celebrate the best season of the year than attending the Fairgrounds Festival in Berry? The festival is held on the first weekend of summer across two days, hosting 18 musical artists who will showcase some of their best music.

If you’re off to the festival and are still trying to figure out where to spend your time or perhaps you’re still undecided on whether to go, below is a list of eight musical artists that will feature at the show who cannot be missed.

Sarah Blasko

Sarah Blasko has one of the most recognisable voices in Aussie music. Therer is a strong presence of nostalgia within her music, especially in her latest album, Eternal. This album transports listeners to another world with her heavy use of the synthesiser and haunting melodies. Blasko will be sure to impress and inspire at Fairground Festival with her stunning vocals and lyrics.

King Gizzard & the Lizard Wizard

Melbourne born and bred, King Gizzard & the Lizard Wizard has generated a cult following throughout the country. The band offers their unique sounding psychedelic rock music that has featured in a steady influx of albums and EPs since 2012. Even if you’re not into their music, go and see them just to enjoy the atmosphere that will be present amidst their dedicated fans.

Rodriguez

American/Latino singer-songwriter Rodriguez is a world-renowned artist whose music comments on the hardships that come with being a poor resident of the inner city. He began with little success in North America but later found his fame in South Africa, New Zealand and Australia.

The Searching for Sugar Man soundtrack features a compilation of Rodriguez’s most popular tracks including “Sugar Man”. A world-class act that is an absolute must-see at the Fairgrounds Festival.

The Tallest Man on Earth

Swedish folk artist Kristian Matsson, more commonly known as The Tallest Man on Earth. His folk sound and raw vocals has generated a large following as well as his strong charismatic stage presence. Expect to see music that is out-of-this-world, raw and unique.

Julia Jacklin

Julia Jacklin has featured constantly on Triple J with music from her debut album, Don’t Let the Kids Win. Her voice emits a beautiful, soulful sound that resonates with emotion. Their is a strong indie-folk presence in her music, especially in her hit single, “Pool Party” – a song about moving on with life and growing up, facing new challenges and emotions.

Japandroids 

Two-man Canadian rock band, Japandroids, will be a must-see at the festival. Their music is  described as ‘one part classic rock, one part punk’ which is justified in their most recent hit, “Near to the Wild Heart of Life”. This band is bound to bring a rock and roll crowd that you’ll want to be apart of. Their sound is near on to the Bruce Springsteen of this generation.

Middle Kids

Making the music scene theirs through 2016, Middle Kids present edgy indie-rock music, especially in their first single, “Edge of Town”. The sliding vocals and a single slide steel guitar create a vibrant melody that climbs and tampers with the heartstrings. They have a sound that reminds what it’s like to be young and free in the summer time.

Big Scary

They’ve got musicality, a unique sound and the awards to prove it. Winner of the triple j Australian Album of the Year in 2013, Big Scary are a duo use a mixture of different electronic instruments that you can’t help but dance too. Their music is vocally enchanting and a music act you’ll want to witness.
